Arthur C. Clarke (16 December 1917 – 19 March 2008) was an English science fiction writer, and Stanley Kubrick's co-author of the script for, as well as the primary author for the novel version of 2001: A Space Odyssey. He was considered by many, in fact, to be the greatest science fiction author in the world. His other works included Rendezvous with Rama, The Fountains of Paradise, The Songs of Distant Earth, and Against the Fall of Night.
