Gary Lockwood (born John Gary Yurosek; February 21, 1937) is an American actor.[1] He is best known as astronaut Frank Poole in the film 2001: A Space Odyssey (1968).[2] He previously played Lt. Commander Gary Mitchell in the 1966 Star Trek episode "Where No Man Has Gone Before", the second pilot made for the series; and Lt. William Tiberius Rice, the title character in the 1963–1964 TV series The Lieutenant; both created by Gene Roddenberry.
