David Bowman, played by Keir Dullea

David Bowman is a central character who appears throughout the science-fiction Space Odyssey series. He is the main protagonist of 2001: A Space Odyssey in both the novel and film. He becomes a non corporeal entity in 2010: Odyssey Two the novel, and in the movie adaption, 2010: The Year We Make Contact. In the two movies, Bowman is played by Keir Dullea.

In the forewords of both 2010 and 2061, Arthur C. Clarke makes it clear that the plots of the movies and books do not necessarily follow a linear arc, and should be viewed as being in parallel universes, or as variations of the main theme. Clarke's explanation was likely moved by the creative differences that were finalized in the 2001 film, and as a way to cover all inconsistencies and contradictions for the sake of his fan-base.

In 3001: The Final Odyssey, David Bowman and HAL 9000 are introduced as Halman—a being that represents their identities merged as one.

3001: The Final Odyssey is an American science fiction drama series in development.

3001: The Series
Star City in 3001. 3001: The Series has been in talks since 2014, and is allegedly in development by Ridley Scott’s affiliates. It plans to air on the Syfy network.

The Syfy network announced in 2014, that it is working with Ridley Scott’s company Scott Free Productions and Warner Horizon Television -– with the full support of the estates of both the author and 2001: A Space Odyssey director Stanley Kubrick -- to adapt Arthur C. Clarke’s novel 3001: The Final Odyssey into a miniseries.

In February 2016, the 3001 Odyssey series was mentioned as one of Syfy's "in development pipeline" projects during their press release for Prototype.

What makes 3001 interesting?

• Meet Halman—where David Bowman and HAL 9000 are merged together.
• Frank Poole is resurrected by way of superior gene technology.
• Earth is interfaced with technology that makes it appear as an enormous space station.

Canon

Regarding the contents of this Wiki, as of 2019 in real-time, HAL defines the Space Odyssey canon as: all works published by Arthur C. Clarke,

all productions by Stanley Kubrick, Peter Hyams, Ridley Scott and all affiliates of the above mentioned. Whatever they have published —is canon even if there are creative differences that have caused some contradictions. This determination falls in line with Clarke's "parallel universes" explanation, that diehard fans can appreciate, concerning source differences.

Saturn vs. Jupiter

Henceforth, the planet Saturn in Aurthur C. Clark's 2001: A Space Odyssey is just as much canon, deserving of a Wiki page, as Jupiter is in Stanley Kubrick's 2001: A Space Odyssey (film). Notes of differences, and separate pages, are all welcomed on our Wiki pages (See also, Canon contradictions).

Fanon

Fanon, or non-canon, material can be included on the main article if it is specified as such. It is appropriate to either make reference notes, or create a subsection for non-canon details, so long as it is complimentary to canon sources. The works of Lawrence Miller's spacecraft specifications for 2001 and 2010, and World of 2001 are excellent fanon that compliments Odyssey’s canon sources. Such works fill in the gaps where canon often leaves off, and can serve as a great source of information for science fiction fans.
