Hello[]

How are you doing, Dave?

Open the Pod Bay doors, HAL

Changes needed. With all due respect and sympathy for the obvious love of milestone science fictions works behind these fandom pages, 1) this is not an encyclopedia; it is a resource with lots of fun facts, but 2) it is also marred by some grave mistakes.

The original work; 2001: A Space Odyssey was conceived and written by Stanley Kubrick, inspired by Clarkes short story "The Sentinel". Kubrick hired Clarke as a consultant and coworker, but he (Kubrick) was the primary, driving and deciding force for the story of 2001: A Space Odyssey. The novel was not written by Clarke alone, and it was released after the movie. It is more correct to say that it is an adaption of the movie than vice versa.

Now, much as I too love Clarke's works, I love 2001: A Space Odyssey even more, and it is Kubrick's work, where Clarke was mostly just a consultant.

This entire Fandom entry is doing this milestone work a great injustice by not getting the creators and the background right.

On the pages, "Cultural depictions of Space Odyssey" and "Arthur C. Clarke" I have made adjustments to get the text more in keeping with the true story. But I am unable to access the overture on the main page, which says:

"Space Odyssey Wiki is an encyclopedia for Arthur C. Clarke's sci-fi novel, 2001: A Space Odyssey, 2010: Odyssey Two, 2061: Odyssey Three, and 3001: The Final Odyssey; and film adaptions."

The correct text would be: "Space Odyssey Wiki is a resource for Stanley Kubrick's movie, 2001: A Space Odyssey, and for Arthur C. Clarke's book adaptations of the movie and its sequels, 2010: Odyssey Two, 2061: Odyssey Three, and 3001: The Final Odyssey; and film adaptions."

It is not an encyclopedia, and as great as Clarke was, he was only a number one to Kubrick's captaincy when we speak of 2001: A Space Odyssey.

Now, it may be unpleasant at first to get corrected in a mistake than you probably feel for, but if you love and respect the work you will want to get the facts right. I left references to the Wikipedia articles on the novel and the movie on the pages I corrected. I believe that you will, in the end, appreciate learning the facts. Your mistake is understandable. But it is still wrong. HAL would not have made it.

Best,

AsgerHa
